2026 trout fishing season opens 15th March

Permits for fishing Loch Awe can now only be purchased online.

Anglers need to book their permit prior to travel and their permits will be sent to their email address/smartphone.  Each day the wardens will be sent a list of permits sold so that at a glance they know who is on the Loch and may check permit numbers against the list on their own smartphones.  The information sent to the wardens will also include car registrations.

If anglers are found to be without permits, they will be asked to purchase one immediately on their phone and if this isn’t an option for them, they will be asked to leave the lochside.

Permit Fishing Areas: Loch Awe, Loch Avich and River Avich

Permit Charges:

• LAIA Annual Fishing Permit £90 / £60
• One-Day Trout Permit £10 / £5
• Three-Day Trout Permit £20 / £15
• Weekly Trout Permit £30 / £20
• One-Day Pike/Coarse Permit £10 / £5
• Three-Day Pike/Coarse Permit £20 / £15
• Weekly Pike/Coarse Permit £30 / £20

Note: Under 12 accompanied by permit holding adult – free

Concessionary Permits: available for those aged 60 or over, children aged under or registered disabled persons.

Seasons:

Trout & Coarse Fish (other than Pike) – March 15 to October 6.

Pike All Year Round.  No live fish or other vertebrates to be used as bait

Boat Hire is no longer available from Loch Awe Boats

Loch Awe at 25 miles long is the longest freshwater loch in Scotland, from the village of Ford to the mouth of the River Orchy near Dalmally, with many islands, cranogs and three castles including Innis Chonnel and Kilchurn.

 

Loch Awe Protection Order 1992

All fishing on Loch Awe is covered by a Protection Order granted in 1992 and this is enforced by the Loch Awe Improvement Association (LAIA) and its wardens. The aim of the Protection Order is to ensure that all fishing is done in a legal manner, to protect all species of fish against illegal fishing, to improve existing fish stocks and to enforce all laws and by-laws pertaining to fishing and the surrounding shorelines.

Everyone using loch Awe is asked to respect the loch and take their rubbish home
